I'm Craig Rhodes, and photography and I have had what you'd politely call an on-again, off-again relationship.
It started in 1997, film, back when that was just called "photography." I liked it enough for a year at Art School, and enough to try making it a career. That attempt failed, pretty badly, and I put the camera down for over a decade. Not proud of the gap, but it's the truth.Seven or eight years ago I picked one up again as a Canon convert, hoping that would bring it back. The cameras were genuinely great. What they weren't was a spark.What actually did it was Covid, or what came after. Coming out of lockdowns I needed to make something, and needed to get the f#@& out of the house. New gear followed, and this time it worked.These days photography is how I pay attention. Fine art and street work, mostly, the kind that asks you to actually look at what's in front of you. I use the camera to work out what I think, and to share how I actually see the world.

Photos and projects need somewhere to live beyond a hard drive, and that's really what Attic Magazine is for.It's not on a schedule, and it's not really a magazine in the traditional sense either - some issues are built around a place I've spent time in, some are built around an idea I couldn't quite shake until I gave it a proper home.
